Ecological timber construction in a class of its own – uncompromising quality that impresses
Ecological aspects were taken into account right from the planning stage. Not always easy if you want to build as long-lasting as possible in the spirit of sustainability. Renewable raw materials, robust and weather-resistant woods such as larch and red cedar were chosen as building materials. Even the high camp largely uses no steel. The building is insulated with processed cellulose and heated with a modern air heat pump, the electricity from which is generated by the in-house photovoltaic system. Triple insulating glazing with solar protection glass and external blinds save energy when heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. The rain retention basin with a biotope character provides the necessary water to irrigate the orchard with historical fruit varieties as well as the home-grown organic fruit and vegetables.

Climate-friendly construction
As befits a climate-friendly building, the building is triple-glazed with solar protection glass. This way we save energy when heating in winter and when air conditioning in summer. By the way, the building is heated with a modern air heat pump - we generate the electricity ourselves as much as possible - with the in-house photovoltaic system.
Rain retention basins with biotope character
The rainwater that accumulates on the roof areas is collected in a large rain retention basin with a biotope character - maximum depth of 2 m - and is also available for irrigation of the almost one hectare property. Our rain retention basin has now become a home for fish and mallards decorated with water lilies, swamp irises and forget-me-nots. In addition to the fish used, there are around 200 snails that were probably introduced via waterfowl. An indication of how well the biotope networking is already working.
State Prize for Building Culture Schleswig-Holstein 2022
As a building of particularly high architectural quality, our new company building was approved in 2022 by the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Sabine Sütterlin-Waack was awarded the Schleswig-Holstein State Prize for Building Culture in the “Living and Working” category. The client's meticulousness in resource-saving, ecological sustainability as well as the exemplary, future-oriented integration of the warehouse into the overall concept were particularly praised. The good lighting in the work and lounge rooms, the atrium with its gallery and the high-quality materials were also very well received. which give the building a particularly pleasant atmosphere and quality of stay.
“Certainly an excellent suggestion for sustainable commercial construction of the future,” was the praise of the jury.
The award was presented in the wonderful ambience of the state government guest house to architect Insa Schröder-Ropeter, the client and company founder Peter-Hansen Volkmann and daughter Wiebke Ivens as representative of hypo-A.
Consistent environmental and quality awareness
Package in an environmentally friendly way
We have been using boxes from sustainable forestry to ship our packages since the company was founded. In order to make our corrugated cardboard packaging even more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly, we now use new types of cardboard boxes that consist of 30% grass. By using this rapidly growing raw material, which also comes from unused compensation areas in the region, we not only save valuable wood, water and energy, but also release demonstrably less CO2. So there are many good reasons for the innovative packaging alternative Greencor®. Our packaging chips can be reused and composted without leaving any residue.
Climate-neutral shipping
We send our packages climate-neutrally with DHL GoGreen. In 2020, hypo-A A total of 3.04 t CO2 equivalents offset by climate-neutral GoGreen products and services.
Conservation of resources
By recycling paper, cardboard and cardboard packaging that we place on the market during shipping, the Interseroh dual system saved 22,280 kg of resources and 3,511 kg of greenhouse gases in 2019 alone.
Green electricity from photovoltaic system
hypo-A works 100% with green electricity, which we generate as much as possible directly on site with our in-house photovoltaic system. We obtain the remaining electricity from the Lübecker Stadtwerke, with whom we consciously chose a regional green electricity provider as a partner.
