The fatty acid alpha-lipoic acid is the namesake component of Lipon plus. Since our mitochondria can produce some of it themselves, it is not classified as an essential nutrient.
Acting as an enzyme cofactor, alpha-lipoic acid is found primarily in our mitochondria the "powerhouses of our cells." Consequently, animal tissues with high energy demands such as red meat, liver, heart, and kidney are rich sources of alpha-lipoic acid. Plant-based sources include spinach, tomatoes, peas, and Brussels sprouts.
In addition to alpha-lipoic acid, Lipon plus provides essential vitamins B1, B3, and biotin supplying key nutrients for energy metabolism3 and the nervous system1. The nutrient combination is rounded off with chromium, which contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels2.
1 Biotin, vitamin B1, and vitamin B3 contribute to normal nervous system function.
2 Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels.
3 Biotin, vitamin B1, and vitamin B3 contribute to normal energy metabolism.
